The Living Frontier

2019 (in process)

Public artwork

Commissioned by the Province of Utrecht , in collaboration with QKunst, Gemeente Bunnik , Waterliniemuseum Fort bij Vechten and Bureau Buiten, I am currently working on a public artwork at four large tunnel flanks for a tunnel underneath the A12 high-road.

The Living Frontier is an artwork that tries to grasp the architectural traces in the direct surroundings of the tunnel, at the point where the historical borders of the Roman Empire and the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie intersect. These structures that lie hidden and overgrown in the flat Dutch landscape are forming silent witnesses of these former military borders.

In the artwork I am playing with scale, proportion, sculptural quality and the memory of these structures. The work will be revealed in the summer of 2019.
